Why is it important to seek the advice of an Integrative & Functional Registered DietitIan Nutritionist
There are individuals who call themselves “nutritionists” or "nutrition coaches" and offer nutrition services without adequate education, formal training, and licensing as a nutrition professional. While health coaches/nutrition coaches/nutrition counselors may suggest healthy food choices and healthier lifestyles, they cannot formulate a nutrition diagnosis, prescribe therapeutic diets or provide medical nutrition therapy. The Integrative & Functional Registered Dietitian Nutritionist has a college degree and years of advanced practice training in integrative and functional medicine plus has passed a national examination to obtain the RDN credential. The RDN is required to obtain 75 hours of continuing education every 5 years to maintain RDN status. In Pennsylvania the Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN) is required to obtain 48 continuing education hours every 2 years to maintain state licensure. The registered dietitian nutritionist IS the nutrition expert. Please be sure to check the qualifications of any nutritionist/coach - look for the advanced degrees and proper credentials.
